Not sure if biking to work is for you? Bike to Work Day, a nationwide event, is fun way to find out. Pat Turner, founder of Loudoun’s Bike to Work Day, describes the event as a festival with music, prizes, refreshments, and even free bicycle adjustments from local bike shops. The Loudoun County Department of Transportation says that Bike to Work Day “celebrates a clean, healthy, and fun way to get to work.”
Generally held from 6-9 am every third Friday in May, the event in recent years has had upwards of 600 participants in Loudoun, though numbers vary greatly depending upon weather.
The event is free and open to both new and experienced cyclists. With pit stops along the route, there are opportunities to break for water as well as talk with other cyclists about their experiences. Loudoun generally hosts pit stops in Sterling and Leesburg.
